Industrial policy in Colombia, historical context and analysis of the recent proposal to 2014

This paper provides an assessment of industrial policy in Colombia until 2014. It starts analyzing the historical evolution and the relevant experiences from the Colombian case about industrial policy since XIX century. Then, it will review the recent proposals that have been made by the government to improve the participation of industrial sector in the gross domestic product. Finally, it will conclude that historically the time of high levels of industrialization have been joint with high levels of state intervention, instead, in the recent time the government have played a secondary role, which explains the desindustrialization.
